Neurosciences is an Operational Delivery Network – ODN
In October 2015, Paediatric Neurosciences services in Thames Valley & Wessex became an Operational Delivery Network (ODN). This means that teams from hospitals and community providers work together to improve the quality and experience of care for children / young people and their families with neurological conditions and needs. There are two centres for paediatric neurosciences in the region at Oxford and Southampton Children’s Hospitals. These are where the majority of children’s specialist neurological services are delivered. The centres work collaboratively with district general hospitals and community providers across the network to ensure that the best pathways of care are provided to the children and that they are receiving the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
Paediatric Neurosciences is the only mandated Paediatric ODN in the UK. The creation of networks in neurosciences was recommended as a result of the Paediatric Neurosurgery Safe and Sustainable Review which was undertaken in 2012.
The network team works on regional, supra-regional and national projects alongside stakeholders across the healthcare landscape in order to improve quality and outcomes. Annual ODN workplans are centred around Paediatric Neurosciences Clinical Reference Group (CRG) priorities.
